M4V is a proprietary format used by Apple and has a form of protection called DRM (digital rights management) put there so that you can not do exactly what you are trying to do. The I linked you 2 earleyer up talked about doing just that.and I suggested it as well but to mp4.

But as it xferred to the drive there was no clear evidence of this. Now whether it performed that trick via one or another of the above mentioned programs that I enabled working quietly in the background, I don't know. It performed the trick and played perfectly well on the television. avi and then resaved it to the USB drive. like plugging the toaster into an outlet for god's sake".įrascati wrote:Anyway, amazingly, and probably more to do with luck than anything instructive or useful, out of pure "what the hell, it's worth a try" last night I finally simply right clicked and renamed the. I didn't apprehend the difference, but you'd think their tech support might have spotted it and not simply made up the line that "samsung does not support mpeg-4 at this time."Īnyway, amazingly, and probably more to do with luck than anything instructive or useful, out of pure "what the hell, it's worth a try" last night I finally simply right clicked and renamed the.

It is evidently the m4v and not the mpeg-4 that gives the tv fits.
#M4v to divx converter Patch
I understand why it will not play an M4V file, but after conversion to an MPEG4 or AVI with no DRM protection, your Samsung should have no problem with it.Īnyone else here ever try to deal with Samsung's customer support? Do you also have a raw bald patch on your head and a lot of broken furniture? Afraid this is one more case, of many, of them sending you in the wrong direction to get you off the phone as quickly as possible. Isn't there a SIMPLE method of converting that file? Would anyone be so kind as to give me a little step by step with avidemux since that seemed to be the only promising one?īy the way, how old is your Samsung? The MPEG4 format is 13 years old. VLC player shows a menu option for file conversion but clicking on it after selecting/opening the file I want to convert seems to do nothing at all. And when I tried to open it with "movie player", VLC, or Divx players none would recognize it either.

But the television would not recognize it. After some experimentation I thought I'd converted it properly into an avi file, the file ended up in a folder on the desktop and said that it was. Winff just just opened a control/command window with about 200 lines of geek ending in a "press enter" command which closed the window and brought me right back to the beginning having done nothing.Īvidemux looked the most promising, but was the most difficult to understand.

Transmageddon gave me a conversion estimation time of 90 minutes, then 120 minutes, then 135, and was climbing onward when I just decided to quit it. It just stalled after entering information, gave me an "idle" progress bar, and then five minutes later an error saying it was not responding. I could not get arista to do anything at all. I have installed, via package manager, winff, transmageddon, avidemux, and arista, attempting each time to convert the file. Why samsung does not support/play this format is strange, but that's that. I never was able to get my laptop connected via HDMI in Mint (video works but no audio) so I'm using a usb drive plugged into the back of the set which has worked really well, until I ran into this MPEG-4. Unfortunately my Samsung plasma television will play divx, mpeg-3, avi, and some others, but not mpeg-4 (according to tech support).

It plays fine in VLC, Movie Player, and SMPlayer. I have the following movie in mpeg-4 on my laptop.
